LAUSD Email and Google Docs

Objective:

  • Students will be able to log into their Schoology and LAUSD email accounts.
  • Students will be able to use Google Drive to create, edit, and submit assignments.
  • Students will format their writing according to criteria established by the instructor.
  • Students will print their assignment once they have obtained approval from teacher or librarian (if necessary).
Standards:

CSS Literary 10.6: Use technology to produce, publish, and update writing. 
ISTE 6a: Students choose the appropriate platforms and tools for meeting the desired objectives of their creation or communication.
ISTE 6d: Students publish or present content that customizes the message and medium for their intended audiences.

Requirements

The Lesson:

  • Students will be welcomed into the library and directed to assigned seats
  • Students will be introduced to library expectations when visiting the library
  • Overview of standards and objectives
  • LAUSD Gmail Email Activation and Schoology Log in:
    • Each student will receive a document with his/her school ID, email account, and 4-digit PIN (English and Spanish versions available)
    • Students will be assigned computers (students must sign in before moving on to assigned computer)
    • Students will go to the library website (www.machslibrary.com)
      • TL will direct students to link with step-by-step instructions as a reference 
    • TL will guide students through the process of activating account/resetting password (the process can be completed in English or Spanish)
      • TL will model each step of the process with the help of a projector
      • Classroom Teacher will be walking around the room addressing students' questions 
      • TL will make sure that all students have logged into their LAUSD before moving on 
    • Once all students are able to log into their email accounts, they will go to Google Docs
    • TL will model the following process:
      • How to start a new Google Doc
      • How to title the Doc
      • What to write on the body of the Doc
      • How to share the doc 
        • Students will share their Doc to show proficiency
    • Students will log into Schoology
    • Classroom Teacher will direct students to the assignment to be completed in class
      • Students will have time to complete the assignment
    • Students will submit their assignment created in Google Docs though Schoology 
Assessment:

To show proficiency, students must fulfill the following requirements:
1. Successful log into LAUSD Gmail Email and Schoology
2. Successful sharing of Test Doc
3. Successful submission of Schoology assignment
