Quickwrite: Write down ten words that come to mind when you hear the words "research paper"
With a table partner, students will share their answer
Students will then rate each other's responses as positive, neutral, or negative
As a whole group, the class will discuss perceptions on researching

NOTE: Students should have a topic to research. The topic does not have to be developed into a thesis, though.
Students will receive a copy of the graphic organizer.
TL will explain each of the six BIG6™ skills.
Of the six skills, only the first three can be completed during class.
Using their own topics, students will:
generate five-six research questions (#1);
list types of sources and where to find them (#2);
create a research plan that covers when and where they will go to get their information (#3).
Next Steps:
Students will create an outline for all six skills with self-created definitions for each of the skills
